The Kitchen Club is a social pickleball community built around good games and good company. We bring players together for friendly competition, shared experiences and plenty of fun on court.

We don't currently follow a fixed weekly schedule. Social games are arranged when courts and organisers are available.

When a game is confirmed, its details will appear on our website with a link to RSVP.

Select Join Now and complete our short registration form. We'll use the information you provide to learn a little about you and keep you informed about future club activities.

Joining the club does not automatically reserve a place in a social game. You'll still need to RSVP for each game you would like to attend.

When a game is available, an Upcoming Game card will appear on our website. Select View Event & RSVP to open the event in Pickleheads and confirm your place.

Places may be limited and are generally allocated in signup order. Players can follow a Pickleheads invitation link and register for a session even if they do not already have an account.

The event will be marked Session Full. If a waitlist is available, follow the Pickleheads event link to join it. A place may become available if another player withdraws.

If you can no longer attend a game, please remove yourself from the event promptly so another player has the opportunity to play.

Yes, beginners are welcome! Player requirements may vary between games depending on the format and group. Check the skill range displayed on the event before registering.

Bring a pickleball paddle, suitable court shoes, comfortable sports clothing and plenty of water.

Any venue charges, ball requirements or additional instructions will be included in the event details. Please arrive early enough to check in and be ready when play begins.

Pickleball is a paddle sport played on a badminton-sized court using a solid paddle and a perforated plastic ball. It can be played as singles or doubles.

The sport combines accessible rules with fast exchanges, long rallies and plenty of strategy, making it enjoyable for a wide range of ages and playing abilities.

A serve is played diagonally into the opposite service court. The receiving team must allow the serve to bounce, and the serving team must also allow the return to bounce. After these first two bounces, players may volley the ball or play it after a bounce.

Common faults include hitting the ball out, hitting it into the net, allowing it to bounce twice or illegally volleying from the non-volley zone.

The Kitchen is the informal name for the non-volley zone beside the net. It extends 2.135 metres from the net on each side of the court.

Players cannot volley — that is, hit the ball before it bounces — while touching the Kitchen or its boundary line. It's also a fault if a player's momentum carries them into the Kitchen after hitting a volley.

Players may enter the Kitchen to play a ball after it has bounced. And yes, this famous part of the court inspired our club's name.

Official Australian rules summary

Traditional pickleball uses side-out scoring, meaning only the serving team can score a point. Games are normally played to 11 points and must be won by two.

In doubles, the score is called using three numbers: the serving team's score, the receiving team's score, and the server number — one or two.

The Kitchen Club leaderboard is based on results recorded at eligible club social games. It may display games played, wins, losses, win percentage and other performance statistics.

A DUPR rating is a separate, external pickleball skill rating. Where a member has a DUPR account and has given permission, their rating may appear alongside their Kitchen Club statistics.

A DUPR rating is not required to join The Kitchen Club or appear in our social-game results. DUPR is the official rating system used by Pickleball Australia for its sanctioned tournaments, leagues and events.
